Weekly Catch Up: Trip's to Ikea + Nipple Shields + My Newest Kitchen Gadget

She's Back!

My sincerest apologies for being so absent on both here, and Instagram these past few weeks. My plate was totally full - and the spare moment's I had, were used to simply keep my sanity in tact (read: sleep, and someBravo guilt pleasure's thrown in the mix) . . If you haven't been keeping up, we recently moved (as in two-ish weeks ago, recent) . I've moved an abnormal amount of time's in my life - so consider myself a pro, yet nothing could have prepared me for moving with both a toddler and a baby. . .  It's like, being a stay at home Mom and doing all of the usual stuff all the while trying to pack all of your life's belonging's into little boxes. I don't recommend it!

Anyway's if that wasn't enough - my darling Husband's brewery's grand opening coincided just a week after we moved. . ! I don't remember a time where I saw him less than last week. . He was gone from sunrise, to sunrise. It was a lot!

Baby Lola Ivy Smiling with her new two bottom teeth

New Teeth, Who Dis?

Also in the mix - Lola teething hard, to the point where I couldn't put her down, like - at all. She has two adorable itty bitty bottom teeth currently, but boy did those cuties cost me a good ounce of sanity. . and some flesh. Yep, my poor nipples! Nursing is very painful on one side because I legit have teething wounds - It's to the point where I had to ask my Mother in Law to run to target to buy me nipple sheilds (btw, do you know how big your nipples are? Apparently mine are a size 1 FYI. . lol)  Spoiler alert, Lola think's the nipple shield is whack and will not nurse on it . . So basically, I have to muscle through the excoriating pain until it heals . . . *Que the world's smallest violin *

In other breaking news - Stella totally potty trained herself a few weeks shy of three! She was adamant that she would let us know when she was ready, and kept referring to "the new house" , and "Wednesday " (super random, no idea!) . . So when we were at our new house, and it fell on a Wedsnday - I casually asked her if she wanted to go potty, and to my shock - she said YES!!!! We have been diaper free, and without accidents since! Also - this has created lot's of impromptu nakedness lately. . See photo above. I was legit trying to take a "blogger" self timer photo when she so graciously photo bombed me ! Too cute not too post, and too hot for clothes. Stella's always living her best life!

I Joined the Instant Pot Cult

The OTHER Target purchase this week, was the much talked about Instant Pot. I kept putting this purchase off, and decided that I would FINALLY give in - and become one of the millions that use and hopefully love this thing. . So far, I've steamed a shit load of broccoli in it - pressured cooked two huge sweet potatoes in the 1/4 of the time it would have taken in the oven, and made a dozen hard boiled eggs. . I feel like I still have a lot to learn (anyone else refuse to read instruction books? Lol) - but this thing is pretty cool, and I can see myself using it a lot.

New Nest for my little ducklings

The hardest part about moving - has been trying to mute the annoying voice in my head that want's everything done immediately! I am totally the type of person who lives by the motto "everything has a place" - and can been seen following behind my toddler all day picking up after her never ending messes! So, when I realized it would be a while until my husband would have time to drill and install shelves and stuff - I took matter's into my own hands (sorta), and hired a handyman! Seriously, best money EVER spent. I just pointed as he happily installed ALL THE THINGS!!!

So now that the house is somewhat in order (see a sneak peak of our new master here), I am obsessing over our dining area - and made the entire family trek to Ikea yesterday in 100F heat to pick up our new table! They'll thank me one day, right?

Anyways' that is what we have been up to this week! Hope you all are still enjoying your summer, and hopefully you are all peacefully situated in your homes, and don't plan on moving anytime soon! Lol

Staycation: Our 4th of July at the Omni Carlsbad

Keeping it Simple, Sorta

We nearly stayed home, and forwent all the Independence Day festivities - yet it was scorching out, we had an impending move/brewery grand opening - and decided we could use a little getaway before the madness ensued.

I wanted somewhere that catered to both adult's, and kids - and immediately thought of the Omni La Costa , as they have an entire pool area dedicated to little ones. . Thankfully, with only two day's to spare - they had room availability, so we swooped in and snagged it !

Of course I hit up Target before we went, and purchased this ever so festive yet resort-like gingham off the shoulder dress! The leopard slide's were a no brainer - because I refuse to wearing anything aside from slide's, and they were under $20. I linked my entire look below - just click photo's to purchase.

Poolside Snack's

What I loved about the pool, was that it was shallow enough that Stella could independently play - while our lounge chair's were within a few step's from her. Also - the pool is full service, with staff eager to take your drink/ food oder . . The negative's , it was SO busy. Duh, major holiday! It was so busy that we had to wait to get into the pool area, and basically hunt for seat's for a good 20 minutes. . Also, to be totally honest - the food was definitely a pass. It was super expensive, and we got served stale pita chips, stale corn chips, and just an overall lack luster experience . . I'd recommend to buy snack's at their cafe and bring it, or even better - hit up a grocery store (so many close by) and bring your own in a little cooler with yummy stuff (I will be doing this next time!)

Nap, Than Party

After spending the day by the pool, we took to our room's to nap (well, everyone BUT me - of course!) . . While they slept peacefully, I snuck off to make a reservation at the main on site restaurant . My goal was to get a table facing the firework's - and to time it perfectly with when they happened. Mission accomplished! We landed a stellar table, with great views - and since both girl's napped - they were awake to participate.

Poolside Essentials

I just recently discovered water wipes, and I am OBSESSED! Perfect for cleaning sticky hands - or messes. Unlike my other favorite Seventh Generation wipes - these don't leave lint. So you can totally wipe a stain off dark fabric (aka your car seats!) .

Also - Lola is totally teething , so those little wafers are a must. They are kind of pain - because I always will find a little piece stuck to me hours later . . Lol. Yet, it's worth the stickiness - as it seems to be one of the few things that will keep her content these days. . and of course I have hand Sani on my at all times! Seem to be sticking to this honest company one lately.

Next Time, I'm Heading to the Spa

All in all - it was a super quick, but great little getaway! It is literally 5 minutes away from our house - which is even better. The beautiful Spanish style architecture , and the endless tropical foliage definitely make's the Omni prime for some Instagram moments! It's a great place for families to take solace - and next time I hope to relish in their spa amenities (hello Chopra centre!)

Look out Youtube!

I wanted to make a little keepsake for my family, so I used the 8mm app to record some vintage footage. I decided to upload it youtube for you all to check out, and hopefully it will inspire you to make some of these for yourself! Let me know what you think, and I'd love to hear your summer plans! Where are you headed?

Weekend Fun: Eating French Fries for Breakfast On the Oceanside Pier

Forever A Tourist

If you follow me along on instagram, I recently confessed to never traveling outside of North America. Despite desperately wanting to travel abroad - the "right time" just never presented itself to me. . While my friend's were backpacking in Europe - I was juggling multiple part time job's , planning my big move from Toronto, Canada - to California.  Now that I'm here, I still feel like such a tourist! Despite having lived here for nearly 8 years (wow, time flies!) - I'm still a small town Canadian girl who is endlessly enamored by the 365 days of sunshine, swaying palm trees, and all that makes California such an iconic state.

Therefore, my absolute favorite thing to do on the weekend's , is to get out of the house - pretend I'm a tourist, and sight see! There is seriously SO much to see in San Diego. My parent's have visited more time's that I can count, and they still have yet to experience all that San Diego has to offer. . So word to the wise, if you are planning a trip here, plan one for longer than you expect.  As San Diego County is a huge area, stretching miles up the coast - and inland.

This post will be part of on ongoing series, dedicated to all the fun things to see, do, and eat in San Diego!

Oceanside Pier

Oceanside is a laid back gem, at the very most north point of San Diego county. It is bordered by Camp Pendleton, which is a vast and empty piece of land used by the marine's for training purposes. It has a beatnik, eclectic beach vibe - and up until recently, time had stood still for this small coastal city.

The main attraction, is most definitely the pier - which happens to be one of the longest (1,942 ft) wooden piers on the west coast!

Not only is the pier a fun place to take a leisurely stroll down, but perched at the very end of it, is a classic diner equipped with all the decadent classics to replenish those calories you just burnt off!

Calories Don't Count on the Weekend

We buy organic, avoid dairy, eat lot's of veggies, and eat mainly vegetarian  - during the week. So when we go out on the weekend's, we break all the rules!

We like good food - and sometimes good food, isn't good for you. Rather than guilt myself for it, I try to limit the weekend binging to one meal - and eat light the rest of the day. Quite honestly, since intermittent fasting - I've noticed a huge decrease in my appetite. It's not something that is constantly on my mind like before. I try to eat the majority of my carbs for lunch, and have been loving breakfast bowls (recipe coming!).

Moral of the story, let loose! You can get back to whatever regiment you follow on Monday! Get out to your local eateries, and indulge in some tasty food! Life is all about balance - and finding yours!

Full disclaimer, I bought that milkshake solely as a prop - as Stella can't have dairy (read more about that here ), and neither can I (especially while nursing Lola, as she's become extremely fussy anytime I've ate even a little). . I just couldn't miss the opportunity to have the full on diner shot! PS - I asked if they had a dairy free version, but it was. a laughable no!

French Fries For Breakfast

This was fully my idea, signed off with an approving shreik of joy by my toddler! Judge me!

An Ode to a Bygone Era

Part of the appeal of Ruby's - is their purist approach to the 1940's style diner seen in everything from the red vinyl booths - to the waitresses and waiters dressed in classic dress, and aprons. . I'm all about small details, and appreciate the dose of nostalgia!

Our little circus

Yep, having two littles under 3 is a lot! Especially toting them around on these weekend adventures. But I'm all for the chaos if it makes for sunshine filled, happy memories.

Walking Those Carbs Off

Remember when I said this was one of the longest wooden piers? Thank goodness, because you just ate like a hormonal teenager - and now you can burn some of that off (just ignore the smell of funnel cakes once you get to the boardwalk!)
